American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) visit to EMSL Ispra, 18/03/2010During his visit to the JRC Ispra site, Dr Benn Tannenbaum from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) visited the European Microwave Signature Laboratory (EMSL) of IPSC’s STA Unit. As the Program Director of the AAAS Center for Science, Technology and Security Policy, Mr Tennenbaum took particular interest in the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) infrastructure and the related security challenges both from intentional and natural threats including space debris and radio frequency interference. GNSS, as part of the space infrastructure, is seen as a critical asset for the technologically advanced economies and is receiving increasing attention in the security agenda in Europe and the USA. In view of the policy significance of the Galileo programme in Europe, STA unit is actively researching into countermeasures against GNSS threats and vulnerabilities including RF interference and malicious attacks.
EMSL Laboratory - Antenna Measurements Ispra, 8/03/2010 CORSA carried out radio frequency measurements for KATHREIN-Werke KG of Germany during 8-12 March. The special test capability of the anechoic chamber of the EMSL and associated suite of automated test procedures allows users to carry out tests for automotive antenna characteristics where measurements last for several hours. The user is able to monitor the measurements online through the web as well as visualize the results in real time. On this occasion three new BMW-antenna sets were measured on two new models.
